class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">To talk about the History of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/en\/sports\/handball\/\">Handball<\/a>, we first need to understand that it started as an outdoor sport, played in a field. After, it was developed to be an indoor game. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HANDBALL_ORIGIN\"><\/span>HANDBALL ORIGIN<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\">We have already published studies on the History of Handball there are several versions about the origin of Handball. See the main versions below.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HANDBALL_ORIGIN-2\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">HANDBALL ORIGIN<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In the published studies on the history of handball, there are several versions of the origin of handball. Below, see the major versions&gt;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"DENMARK_1848\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">DENMARK 1848<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">According to Nogueira (2004), there are reports that Handball appeared in Denmark in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1848,<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> through a game created by Prof. Holger Nielsen, whose name was <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Handebold <\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">or<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b> Haadbold.<\/b><\/span><u><\/u><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CZECHOSLOVAKIA_19th_CENTURY\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">CZECHOSLOVAKIA 19th CENTURY<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Nogueira (2004) also affirms there are reports that Handball appeared in Czechoslovakia in the nineteenth century with a game called <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Hazena<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> or <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Azena.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"URUGUAY_1911\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>URUGUAY 1911<\/b><\/span><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">There are also reports of a game called \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Balon<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201d, created in Uruguay by Professor Gualberto Valetta.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FROM_WHERE_HANDBALL_CAME\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">FROM WHERE HANDBALL CAME<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Handball was created in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Germany<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> as Field Handball in the late 19th century, which was initially called &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Torball<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">&#8220;, which was a game derived from two other games created by Konrad Koch the &#8220;Raffball&#8221; and the &#8220;Konigsbergerball&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">According to Nogueira (2004) \u201cTorball\u201d was a sport widely practiced by young women in a field measuring 40 meters by 20 meters. With the adherence of men to the &#8220;Torball&#8221; the dimensions increased to 80 x 40 meters and then to the same dimensions as the soccer field.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"WHEN_HANDBALL_WAS_CREATED\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>WHEN HANDBALL WAS CREATED <\/b><\/span><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Handball was created in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1919<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> when the rules of \u201cTorball\u201d were reformulated, including its name changed to Handball.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"WHO_CREATED_HANDBALL\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>WHO CREATED HANDBALL <\/b><\/span><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The main responsible for the transformation of \u201cTorball\u201d into Handball was <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Karl Schelenz<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, who is considered the creator of Handball. Schelenz was assisted by Max Heiser and Erich Konigh.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FIRST_INTERNATIONAL_HANDBALL_MATCH\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>FIRST INTERNATIONAL HANDBALL MATCH<\/b><\/span><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">It was in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1925 <\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">when Germany and Austria faced each other in what is considered the first international handball match. The Austrian team won by 6 to 3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7650 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/historia-handebol.png\" alt=\"Handball History in the World\" width=\"560\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/historia-handebol.png 560w, https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/historia-handebol-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CREATION_OF_THE_INTERNATIONAL_HANDBALL_FEDERATION\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">CREATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL HANDBALL FEDERATION<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In the late <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1920s<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the International Handball Federation (FIHA) was founded with the participation of 11 countries, which published Handball rules in three languages: German, French and English.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HANDBALL_IN_OLYMPIC_GAMES\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>HANDBALL IN OLYMPIC GAMES<\/b><\/span><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1394<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose Handball (still as Outdoor Handball) as one of the sports to be played at the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1936<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Berlin Olympic Games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The first Olympic Handball competition had Germany beating Austria in the grand final by 10 to 6. The final was attended by over 100,000 people at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"INDOOR_HANDBALL_HISTORY\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>INDOOR HANDBALL HISTORY <\/b><\/span><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">According to Nogueira (2004), Handball began to be practiced indoors in Sweden in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1924<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, due to the harsh winter that prevented the games in open fields.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The first World Handball Championship was organized by FIHA and took place in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Germany<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1938<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> and had only 4 participating teams (Germany, Sweden, Austria, and Denmark), Germany was the champion.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"THE_CREATION_OF_IHA\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>THE CREATION OF IHA <\/b><\/span><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">On July 11, 1946, the International Handball Association (IHA) was founded, the new International Handball Federation, affiliated with the International Olympic Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HANDBALL_WORLD_CHAMPIONSHIPS\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>HANDBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS<\/b><\/span><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1948<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the world championships were held again but without the participation of the Germans who were excluded for a time after World War II.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1948<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the Men&#8217;s Handball World Championship was held and in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>1949<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the Women&#8217;s Handball World Championship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Indoor handball had its Men&#8217;s World Championship held in 1954, won by <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Sweden<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, and the first Women&#8217;s World Championship was held in 1957 and won by <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Czechoslovakia.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Currently, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>IHA<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Handball World Championships are held every 2 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"MORE_HANDBALL_CONTENT\"><\/span>MORE HANDBALL CONTENT<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/en\/handball-fundamentals\/\">Handball Fundamentals<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/en\/handball-tactical-systems\/\">Handball Tactical Systems<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/en\/handball-rules\/\">Handball Rules<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/en\/handball-court\/\">Handball Court<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HISTORY OF OUTDOOR AND INDOOR HANDBALL To talk about the History of Handball, we first need to understand that it started as an outdoor sport, played in a field.
