href=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/en\/\"><span lang=\"en-US\">DEF<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"en-US\">,<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> made a big effort to summarize the main official handball rules in order to facilitate the study and understanding of all official handball rules.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>RULE 01: PLAYING COURT SIZE<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9497 size-full\" <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Handball Court<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> is a rectangle that measures <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">20 meters<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> wide by <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">40 meters<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> long. Handball court lines and markings are: goal areas, free-throw lines, goalkeeper\u2019s restraining lines, 7-meter lines, substitution lines, center line, sidelines and the goal lines.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_02_PLAYING_TIME\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 02: PLAYING TIME<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">According to <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">official Handball rules<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, the normal playing time for all teams with players of age 16 and above is <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">2 halves of 30 minutes<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. The <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">half-time<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> break is normally <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">10 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The normal playing time for youth teams is 2 x 25 minutes in age group 12-16;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The normal playing time for youth teams is 2 x 20 minutes in age group 8-12;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">When the game is tied at the end of the regular playing time and a winner has to be determined, the overtime is played. No more than <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">7 players<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> may be present on the court at the same time. When a regular player enters the goal area, the following sanctions should be taken: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Goalkeeper throw<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> when a player of the attacking team enters the goal area in possession of the ball or enters without the ball but gains an advantage by doing so; <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Free throw<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> when a court player of the defending team enters the goal area and gains an advantage;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">7-metre throw<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> when a court player of the defending team enters the goal area and because of this destroys a clear chance of scoring.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201c<span lang=\"en-US\">It is <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">not allowed<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> to pass the ball back to the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">goalkeeper<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> while he is <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">within his goal area<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Free throw<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> will be awarded to opposing team\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_08_PLAYING_THE_BALL\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 08: PLAYING THE BALL <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Throw<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, catch, stop, push or hit the ball, by using hands (open or closed), <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">arms, head, torso, thighs, and knees;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Hold <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the ball for a maximum of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">3 seconds<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Take<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> a maximum of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">3 steps<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> with the ball;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Bounce <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the ball once and catch it again with one or both hands;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Bounce<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the ball repeatedly with one hand (dribble), and then catch it or pick it up again with one or both hands;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Roll<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the ball on the floor repeatedly with one hand, and then catch it or pick it up again with one or both hands. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201c<span lang=\"en-US\">Is not allowed to <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">touch<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the ball with a <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">foot or leg below the knee<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, except when the ball has been thrown at the player by an opponent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_09_HANDBALL_PASSIVE_PLAY\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 09:HANDBALL\u00a0 PASSIVE PLAY<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Passive play is not allowed and it consist to keep the ball in the team\u2019s possession without making any recognizable attempt to attack or to shoot on goal. Similarly, it is not allowed to delay repeatedly the execution of a throw-off, free throw, throw-in, or goalkeeper throw for one\u2019s own team.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_10_FOULS\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 10: FOULS<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It_is_not_considering_a_foul_when_a_player\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">It is not considering a foul when a player: <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Uses an open hand<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> to play the ball out of the hand of another player;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Uses bent arms<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> to make body contact with an opponent, and to monitor and follow him in this way;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Uses one\u2019s trunk<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> to block the opponent, in a struggle for positions.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It_is_considering_a_foul_when_a_player\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">It is considering a foul when a player: <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Pulls or hits<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the ball out of the hands of the opponent;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Blocks<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the opponent with arms, hand, legs, or to use any part of the body to displace him or push him away; <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Holding on to the opponent for a long time, or pulling him down;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Fouls against the head, throat or neck;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Hard hitting against the torso or throwing arm;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Attempting to make the opponent lose body control;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Running or jumping with great speed into an opponent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Protests, involving shouting with forceful gestures or provocative behavior;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">When there is a decision against the team in possession and the player in possession of the ball does not immediately make it available to the opponent by releasing it or leaving it on the ground;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Block access to the ball that went into the substitution area.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_11_NADBALL_SCORING\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 11: NADBALL SCORING <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">A goal is scored when the entire ball has completely crossed the goal line.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_12_THE_HANDBALL_THROW-OFF\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 12: THE HANDBALL THROW-OFF <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The Throw-off <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">is taken at the start of the first (coin toss decision) and second half of play and after a goal has been scored;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">In case of an <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">overtime<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, a new coin toss will be made;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The throw-off is taken in any direction from the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">center<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> of the court, it is preceded by a whistle signal, following which it must be taken within <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">3 seconds<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The player taking<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the throw-off must take up a position with at least <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">one foot<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> on the center line, and the other foot on or behind the line;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">However, for the throw-off <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">after a goal<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> has been scored, the opponents of the thrower are allowed to be in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">both halves<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> of the court, at least 3 meters away from the player taking the throw-of.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_13_HANDBALL_THROW-IN\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 13: HANDBALL THROW-IN<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">A throw-in is awarded when the ball has completely crossed the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">sideline;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The throw-in is taken <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">without whistle<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> signal from the referees;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The thrower must stand with <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">a<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">foot on the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> sideline;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">While the throw-in is being taken, the opponents may not be closer than <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">3 meters<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> to the thrower. This does not apply, however, if they stand immediately outside their own goal-area line.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_14_THE_GOALKEEPER_THROW\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> 14: THE GOALKEEPER THROW <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Goalkeeper Throw <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">should be performed only by the goalkeepers, on the following cases:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">A player of the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">opposing<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> team has <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">entered<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the goal area;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The goalkeeper has <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">controlled<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the ball in the goal area or the ball is stationary on the floor in the goal area;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">A player of the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">opposing <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">team has <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">touched<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the ball when it is rolling on the floor in the goal area <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">When the ball has <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">crossed the outer goal line<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, after having been touched last by the goalkeeper or a player of the opposing team. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_15_THE_FREE_THROW\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 15: THE FREE THROW<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">A <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Free Throw<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> must be taken <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">every time<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> there is a violation of the rules, either a playing ball violation or a foul;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Free Throw<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> is normally taken <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">without any whistle<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> signal from the referee and, in principle, from the place <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">where<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the infraction occurred;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The opposing players must respect a distance of 3 meters from the free thrower.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_16_THE_HANDBALL_7-METER_THROW\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 16: THE HANDBALL 7-METER THROW<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The 7-Meter Throw is awarded whenever a <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">clear chance<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> of scoring is illegally destroyed anywhere on the court by a player or a team official of the opposing team or; there is an unwarranted whistle signal at the time of a clear chance of scoring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/tiro-sete-metros-handebol-300x115.jpg\" alt=\"Main Handball Rules: 7-meter Shooting\" width=\"400\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/tiro-sete-metros-handebol-300x115.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/tiro-sete-metros-handebol-768x294.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.dicaseducacaofisica.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/tiro-sete-metros-handebol.jpg 840w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The 7-meter throw is to be taken as a shot on goal, within <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">3 seconds<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> after a whistle signal from the referee;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The player who is taking the 7-metre throw must take up a position <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">behind the 7-meter line<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The ball must not be played again by the thrower or a teammate following the execution of a 7-meter throw, until it has touched an opponent or the goal; <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">When a 7-meter throw is being executed, the players of the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">opposing<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> team must remain outside the free throw line and at least <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">3 meters<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> away from the 7-meter line;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The 7-meter throw is to be <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">retaken<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, unless a goal is scored, if the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">goalkeeper crosses<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> his restraining line. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RULE_17_GENERAL_INSTRUCTIONS_FOR_THE_EXECUTION_OF_THE_THROWS\"><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">RULE 17: GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXECUTION OF THE THROWS <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Prior to the execution, the thrower must be in the correct position prescribed for the throw.
