and in the world today certainly think that, because of the skills of the black and afro-descendant players, the first ball that arrived here was kicked by a fellow human being. In this post we will make a summary about the History of <span lang=\"pt-BR\">Football<\/span> in Brazil.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BDid_Football_Start_in_Brazil\"><\/span>\u200bDid <span lang=\"pt-BR\">Football<\/span> Start in Brazil?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">You might even think that <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> emerged in Brazil, given the history of great players we had, especially in the glorious years of the 20th century. But, as you will see in this post, the history of <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> in Brazil was not quite like that.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BWho_brought_football_to_Brazil\"><\/span>\u200bWho brought <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> to Brazil?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">There is no contradiction when it is stated that the person responsible for introducing this sport in Brazil was a Brazilian named Charles William Miller, the son of a Scottish father and a Brazilian mother of British descent.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BFrom_Cricket_to_Football\"><\/span>\u200bFrom Cricket to <span lang=\"pt-BR\">Football<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">At the end of the 19th century, before Miller introduced us to the latest sport, the game of cricket, also of English origin, was common. But in 1894, the country met what would become its main sport: <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BCuriosities_about_Charles_Miller\"><\/span>\u200bCuriosities about Charles Miller<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">Charles Miller is a very well known name to S\u00e3o Paulo fans, as it was he who founded the S\u00e3o Paulo Athletic Club in mid-1894, when several sports clubs dedicated to this sport began to emerge. But it was only in 1930 that the <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> team was created.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BHow_Football_arrived_in_Brazil\"><\/span>\u200bHow <span lang=\"pt-BR\">Football<\/span> arrived in Brazil<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">Miller learned all about <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> while studying in Southampton and was part of the athletic team at Bannister Court School. He was a player, a referee, and even a manager, which made him one of the biggest enthusiasts of the sport at the time.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">So, back in Brazil, Miller brought the novelty, well accepted by the S\u00e3o Paulo community. If this happened, it was in the hidden corners of the peripheries.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BThe_Blacks_in_Brazilian_Football\"><\/span>\u200bThe Blacks in Brazilian <span lang=\"pt-BR\">Football<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">Only after 1920 did blacks start to integrate some <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> teams, with emphasis on Vasco, which joined unofficial teams from Rio de Janeiro&#8217;s suburbs in order to enable the inclusion of low-income people in the sport.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BThe_first_football_teams_in_Brazil\"><\/span>\u200bThe first <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> teams in Brazil<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">In the first decades of the 20th century the major <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> clubs began to emerge:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"left\">Am\u00e9rica Mineiro (1912)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"left\">Ava\u00ed (1923)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"left\">Corinthians (1910)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"pt-BR\">Cruzeiro<\/span> (1921)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"pt-BR\">Flamengo<\/span> (1912)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"left\">Gr\u00eamio (1904)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"left\">S\u00e3o Paulo (1930)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"left\">Vasco (1915).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\">However, the two oldest <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> teams in Brazil still active are Sport Club Rio Grande, founded in 1899 under the name Sport Club Germ\u00e2nia, and Ponte Preta (AAPP), founded in 1900.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BThe_Brazilian_National_Football_Teams_First_Match\"><\/span>\u200bThe Brazilian National <span lang=\"pt-BR\">Football<\/span> Team&#8217;s First Match<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">1914 is considered the &#8220;official year&#8221; of the first match of the Brazilian National Team, which beat Argentina in the Copa Roca, in a friendly and unique match held in the neighboring country. The Copa Roca had its last edition in 1970, when it was replaced by the Supercl\u00e1sico das Am\u00e9ricas.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">That was also the year when the institution that would henceforth be the administrator of the Brazilian National Team, the Brazilian Sports Federation (<span lang=\"pt-BR\">BSF<\/span>), today known as the Brazilian Football Confederation (<span lang=\"zxx\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbf.com.br\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">B<\/a>FC<\/span>), was created.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The first Brazilian president to encourage the practice of <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> was Get\u00falio Vargas, already in his first phase of government, which began in 1930. It was from this time on that the sport began to gain strength and public.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BHow_did_Football_develop_in_Brazil\"><\/span>\u200bHow did <span lang=\"pt-BR\">Football<\/span> develop in Brazil?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">The incentive of the Get\u00falio Vargas government (1930-1945), which gave unrestricted support to the sport, cannot be discounted, but mainly due to the growing interest of Brazilians in playing <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">With the incessant emergence of new sports clubs and the introduction of <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football,<\/span> as their main activity, the sport has been gaining new fans.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The stadiums began to gain a certain glamour, with the presence of entire families interested in watching the spectacles produced by the players, who dribbled each other with the ball on the field, in an attempt to score a goal.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%8BThe_First_World_Cup_in_Brazil\"><\/span>\u200bThe First World Cup in Brazil<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"left\">In 1950, Brazilians had the chance to watch at home what would become the most important <span lang=\"pt-BR\">football<\/span> championship in the world, the World Cup.
